 of the City of York

The most important event of the Company of Cordwainers year, is the Charter Weekend.
Traditionally this opens with the Master Elect meeting guests from the London and Scottish Guilds and introducing them to the City of York.

Charter Day
Saw the Robed Officers of the Court and Governors, Masters, Wardens and Members of the Company process to the Guild Church of All Saints Pavement for the Company Service with a procession back to Bedern Hall in the company of the Civic Party.

Charter Dinner
The Annual Charter Dinner of the Company which took place at The Merchant Adventurers’ Hall was preceded by the swearing in of the new Master, her Court of Assistants and new Members.

The Dinner was attended by the Right Honourable Lord Mayor of York, Councillor S. Crisp and the Lord Mayor’s Consort, The Sheriff of York, Mr B. Smith, and the Sheriff’s Lady, the Provost of Kirkudbright, together with Governors, Masters, Wardens, Deacon Conveners and Deacons of Companies/Guilds and Trade Houses from York, London, Richmond, Irvine, Kirkcudbright, Glasgow and Dundee, and members of the Company and their guests.

The main speaker was Mr Michael Wood.
